About

Cleaning, uncomplicated and priced in the open

Marigold House Cleaning cleans homes across 64 suburbs of west Brisbane, and it is run by one person rather than a call centre. It was built on one idea: cleaning your home should not be complicated, and it should not cost an arm and a leg to find out what it costs.

Book NowSee what we do

Why we exist

Booking a cleaner is harder than it needs to be

You want a price. What you get is an appointment. Someone comes to look at your home, walks through it while you follow them, and tells you a number afterwards, or tells you they will send one. Then you wait. Then you chase. By the time you know what it costs you have spent an afternoon and two phone calls finding out, and you still do not know whether the same home down the road was quoted the same.

The other half is what happens after. The first clean is excellent, because the first clean is the audition. The fourth is a bit quicker. By the tenth you are checking the bathroom before you believe it is done, and you have become the person who manages the cleaning, which is the job you were paying to hand over.

None of that is necessary. A price can be a published number. A standard can be a written list. Both of those were the reason to start this rather than something easier.

How it works instead

Four things, and you can open all of them

Not a philosophy. Four objects that exist, that a customer can read before booking, and that a team is held to afterwards.

  1. A rate table, published

9 rates make up every recurring price: the visit, each bedroom, each bathroom, each separate toilet, the kitchen, the living areas, a second storey, the floor area and pets. Add them up yourself and you get the number the form gives you, from $181 a visit. There is no rate that appears once you are on the phone.

  2. A checklist, written line by line

101 checks across 6 areas for a recurring clean, in the order a team works them. It is the scope of the job rather than a description of it, which is why it is on the site before you book and not in an email after.

  3. A photograph of the work, every visit

Your team photographs the checklist items before they leave. That is what stops a clean drifting after the first one: nobody has to remember what good looked like in week one, because there is a record of it.

  4. One person accountable for it

Bookings, pricing, scheduling and every complaint come to the same desk. When something is wrong there is nobody to be transferred to and no policy to be read at you.

What Marigold is not

Nobody bids on your house

This is not a directory and it is not a marketplace. You are not posting a job for people to compete over, you are not being matched to whoever was nearest and available, and no algorithm is choosing a stranger for you. There is no bidding, because there is nothing to bid on: the rate is already published and it is the same rate for everyone.

Worked through: a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom, single storey, 100 to 200m2 comes out at $296 a fortnightly visit. That is the number for cleaning in Toowong and the number in Mount Crosby. It is the number whichever team is rostered, the number if you book today and the number if you book in March. There is nothing there for anyone to bid against.

On a marketplace the person who turns up decides what a clean is. Here the document decides. Every team works the same items in the same order, and you read the document before you book rather than finding out which items they meant when one is missed.

Who comes to your home

Vetted local teams, on four conditions

Marigold is managed centrally and the cleaning is delivered by independent local cleaning teams. We say that plainly rather than implying a uniformed workforce that does not exist. Before a team can work in a home booked here they have to be a registered business with their own Australian Business Number, carry their own public liability insurance with at least $10 million of cover, pass a police check, and be bound to the published checklist for the service you booked. Those are conditions of engagement rather than things we look for, and the cover is checked by certificate of currency before the first job rather than taken on a say-so.

There is also nowhere for you to go. No office, no showroom and no appointment at either end of the job, which is one of the reasons the rate is what it is.

Your contract is with Marigold whichever team attends, and Marigold is responsible to you for the work.
